Cllr Bob Stevens, Warwickshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for HS2, said: “Our legal challenge to get fairer procedures put in place was the right thing to do on behalf of our residents, and it is clear there are many communities who have felt aggrieved throughout the process.
“This was, as Lady Hale said, ‘not an easy case’. It remains an extraordinary situation where the country’s largest infrastructure project for decades has not been subject to a full environmental assessment compared against alternatives. However, we accept the judgement and we are now focusing our efforts on responding to the HS2 Environmental Statement and petitioning the Government through the parliamentary process. This is crucial to ensuring that we protect, safeguard and seek as many mitigation benefits as we can for Warwickshire from HS2.”
